Explore Yoga Mythology

Yoga is an ancient system of personal development with spiritual, mental and physical aspects. It originated in India as a spiritual path but has since spread to the West where it is practiced mainly as a form of physical exercise. In Boise Idaho, yoga classes are available at various gyms, health centers and studios around town. But to gain a deeper understanding of yoga and its roots, it is important to explore its mythology and traditions. Yoga has a long history deeply rooted in Indian philosophy and tradition. Its practitioners believe that the ultimate goal of a yogic lifestyle is to achieve moksha- liberation from the cycle of life and death- through meditation and the cultivation of awareness, concentration, acceptance and nonattachment. The practice of yoga is based on three fundamental principles: ahimsa (nonviolence), satya (truthfulness) and asteya (nonstealing). Various postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama) and meditative techniques are used as part of this practice to awaken energy pathways in the body called nadis or chakras, which eventually leads one to an inner stillness that brings peace and total harmony. Through this exploration into yoga mythology, you can gain insight into the power of self-discovery that lies within us all.
