So is hot yoga safe during pregnancy?
The verdict is still out. There’s very little research on the safety of hot yoga during pregnancy, and what does exist is inconclusive. One study found that women who practiced hot yoga during their pregnancies were more likely to experience preterm labor and give birth to smaller babies. But another study found that women who practiced hot yoga during their pregnancies were no more likely to experience these problems than women who didn’t practice yoga at all.
So what’s a pregnant woman to do?
If you’re interested in practicing hot yoga during your pregnancy, talk to your doctor first. She may advise you to avoid hot yoga, or she may tell you that it’s okay to practice in a less heated room. And be sure to drink plenty of fluids and take breaks during your practice to stay hydrated.
